October Run It Back

Join us this October with another Run It Back double feature, and this time, we’re stepping into the ring. Continuing our 2026 retro screenings focused on Queer sport, we’re looking at wrestling, identity, desire, and what it means to find your place, both in and outside the ring.

And as always, Run It Back is hosted at Paradise Theatre and is completely Pay What You Can (PWYC) and always free for Inside Out members. We want to continue keeping these screenings accessible to everyone, regardless of what you can afford. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Come through, bring a friend, and pay what you can.

We’re kicking things off with an Inside Out favourite, Signature Move, directed by Jennifer Reeder and starring Fawzia Mirza (also the writer of Signature Move). Set in Chicago, the film follows Zaynab, a Pakistani Muslim lawyer who falls for a woman while secretly training in lucha-style wrestling. It’s a funny, tender story about love, family, culture, and figuring out who you want to be.

From the director: Jennifer Reeder is also known for Knives and Skin (2019), V/H/S/94 (2021), and Perpetrator (2023), bringing her distinctive filmmaking voice across Queer drama, coming-of-age stories, and horror.

Next up is Opponent, directed by Milad Alami, which screened at Inside Out in 2023. The film follows an Iranian refugee and former wrestler in Sweden as he navigates a new life, displacement, and the complicated realities of starting over.

“On a deeper level, the film is about freedom, and the lack of freedom. If you‘ve grown up in a repressive and controlled society like Iran, where your freedom is restricted, and you arrive in a free world like Sweden-how do you actually use that freedom? The title for me was interesting because Iman is fighting against himself, there is a strong duality within him. From the director: Milad Alami made his feature debut with The Charmer (2017), followed by Opponent (2023). His filmmaking explores questions of identity, belonging, and the complexities of life between cultures.
