Fired from his band, down and out rockstar Dewey Finn faces a mountain of debt and depression. Desperate for work, he poses as a substitute music teacher at an uptight private school where his attitude and hijinks have a powerful effect on his students. As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rockstars, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands, solving his financial problems and putting him back in the spotlight.
