In this witty father-son story, we are introduced to Varun, a former scammer, and River, a trans drag performer, as they venture on a road trip across South Africa to rescue River’s long-lost mother from a rehab clinic in eSwatini. River’s only worry is missing Her Vajesty’s Drag Competition and the opportunity to win the prize money to pay for his top surgery. With secrets bubbling to the surface and a competition to win, their relationship will be tested like never before. Ian and Gabe Gabriel, the family duo behind “Runs in the Family”, bring us a heartfelt story about acceptance, community, and unconditional love. There is nothing stronger than familial love, whether biological or chosen!

Gena, a queer artist from a small town in Russia, dresses in otherworldly costumes and protests the government on the streets of Moscow. Born and raised on the harsh streets of Magadan, a frigid outpost of the Soviet gulag, Gena stages radical performances that become a new form of art and activism. By doing that, she wants to change people’s perception of beauty and queerness and bring attention to the harassment of the LGBTQ+ community. The performances—often dark, strange, evocative — are a manifestation of Gena’s subconscious. But they come at a price.

One of the recent success stories to come out of Inside Out’s LGBTQ Finance Forum (2017) and Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program (2018), Jump, Darling is an offbeat family drama set in the heart of Eastern Ontario.

When rookie drag queen Russell, a.k.a. Fishy Falters (Thomas Duplessie), escapes to Prince Edward County to fulfill his wine country fantasy, he reunites with his ailing grandmother Margaret (Oscar and Emmy-winning actress Cloris Leachman) to discover that he isn’t the only one dealing with drama. Margaret is determined to avoid the local nursing home, but Russell knows she won’t be able to take care of herself anymore. Torn between his career aspirations and helping his family, Russell is given the chance to decide what really matters the most.

Featuring, among others, legendary Toronto drag queens Tynomi Banks, Miss Fiercalicious, and Fay Slift, Jump, Darling blends comedy and drama as seen from the colourful viewpoint of a newcomer to the world of drag.
